How to read ukulele tabs

A number of the song sheets here include tablature (tabs). This is a helpful way of showing how to play fingerpicked sections, riffs and licks on stringed instruments. Each of the four lines represent a string and the numbers show which frets to hold down on the fingerboard.

Here is a video tutorial explaining how to read and play along to tab notation on your uke.

12 bar blues

So how do you know which chords to play as the fourths (IV) and fifths (V) in a given key? We started with our root note (I) and counted on our fingers up to the fourth and fifth fingers. Here is where it can help to visualise the Circle of Fifths. From any given root note, look anti-clockwise for the fourth noteĀ and clockwise for the fifth.
