The Bucket – Kings of Leon

Here is a catchy pop tune that had ought to sound pretty fab with some ukulelar-powered energy. It has three chords – D, A and G. We can give it a run-through at the next meetup on Thurs.

Next meetup Thurs 25 May

Several members of 4 Strings will be at Thursday night’s trivia event. Two of them are quiz masters on the night! Consequently there will be no uke meetup this week. We warmly invite people to come have a different kind of enjoyable time and support community radio Main FM instead. More ukulele hijinks next Thursday 25th at the Cri.

This Ukulele – John Goodwin

Here is a handy song to have up your sleeve when people enquire about your instrument. It also adds to our growing collection of songs not only accompanied by the ukulele but also about it.

This song was performed by the character Big Z, who is voice-acted by Jeff Bridges, in the 2007 film Surf’s Up.

Learn the song then wait in ambush for someone to ask about your uke!

Open mic performance

Our group broke through the performance barrier last night at the Criterion Hotel open mic night! Here we are boogieing to our set of three songs:

  1. I’ll Tell Me Ma
  2. Storm Boy
  3. Pacific Ocean

The Cri’s Thursday evening open mics have attracted goodly turnouts of punters and talented performers. Ukulelians may want to consider a play along with 4StringsGood upstairs before coming down to enjoy the music…

I’ll Tell Me Ma

Here is a fun old traditional Irish tune that can be played as gentle or as raucous as you like it.  And like all the best tunes it’s only got three chords.

You are probably familiar with it, but if you aren’t, here is Sinead O’Conner’s version:
